star_3In this week’s episode I share with you some ideas to get more people to join your newsletter list, I’ve got a killer resource that will distribute your videos to dozens of video sharing sites in just a matter of a few minutes, and I’ll share with you my opinion on how you and your staff should dress while at the club.  And I’m sure some other cool stuff that you’d be crazy to miss out on…

Websites and Resources Mentioned in the Show:

So you have a website, and it has a newsletter subscription form on it….then why isn’t anyone signing up for it??  You know that you have information that will help them, and you also know that if you can communicate with your prospects and clients on a regular basis, they are likely to start paying you, or KEEP paying you.  I explain a few ways to get more subscribers.

Youtube is king of videos…Or is it?  Youtube might be the largest video sharing site, but there are dozens of others.  Learn how to submit your video to dozens of video sharing sites in the same amount of time it takes to upload to youtube!

The age old dilemma.  Should your staff wear uniforms?  They want to wear cargo shorts and flip flops, you’re happy in blue jeans and a hat.  But what do your members and clients expect?  There is definitely a happy medium between business casual, and beach casual, and that is what I recommend your staff to wear.  I share my thoughts on what is the best way for your staff to dress while at the gym.

As always your thoughts are appreciated.  Please leave a comment below that will benefit the other viewers AND will get you noticed by Google.  Enjoy the show!

    • Come on man…Don’t hate Kansas!! Use this line…”We are a football school” Doesn’t that make you Mizzou fans feel better?

      BTW, great content!!

      • Well we’re both out now. I like to either cheer for Mizzou or cheer against Kansas. I guess I’m cheering for UNI and St Marys!

    • Anonymous fat gym owner :)

Your timing couldn’t be better. I was just looking in the mirror last night about the double chin that is forming. I also try to ignore the fact that the same size large t shirts that were loose on me last year are now stretching around my barrel belly that’s forming. It doesn’t really hit home until you see a picture of you from the “not so distant” past. I asked my wife if she thought I was putting on weight, and she kindly replied, “not in the past few weeks”. Lol. So I guess that means others have noticed it as well. I spend all day at the gym and I’m guilty of everything you mentioned, except I have wheat thins and peanut butter in my desk lol.

Thanks for the timely reminder that I need to take better care of myself, if not for myself, then for the others who matter most to me.

    • Great Show as usual Curtis. I agree that the owner of the business sets the tone for standards.

    • Curtis,
I’d like to thank you for taking the time to address my question, and featuring it on your show! Just a few days before I watched the last episode, I emailed my design team about the very same things regarding my news letter sign-up looking too “busy”. Now I need to learn how to set up an auto responder, as well as set up on-line registration for the next event I run (my current speed clinic is a print and mail form… I know, not as easy as it should have been for registrants).
Hey man, thanks again! I always learn something by what you cover in the show.

P.S. Thanks also for opening up the line for other fitness pro’s to add any advice 🙂

    • Stacy Knoblach

Good show again Curtis. It really irks me to see trainers that are overweight or who bring a bag of McDonalds into the gym! I just don’t get it.

And as for Hollister, my husband does a lot of internet marketing stuff for work and he thinks you should have a pop up on your page. He has a pet store client who added this to their website and they got many more subscribers this way. And he agreed with Curtis that the offer you make is just too busy. It needs more WOW to it to get someone to give up their email address.

    • GO Tigers!!! MIZ

Hey MJ’s aunt took very good care of him while his dad was gone. It is a good thing that she is the best trainer in the world and takes care of him 🙂

I also hate to see fat trainers and gym owners. If you can’t take care of yourself then why would a client think you can make them look great. It also drives me crazy when a trainer tells their clients not to eat fast foods but then they eat it in the gym. I really think that there should be no fast food in the gym. I make sure to workout and and eat healthy in the gym to be a good example for my clients.

I really love the new FMG web-site. It is very sexy.

Great content in the show. But then again there always is.

    • Hello, that was without a doubt an interesting post. I had actually been looking for a photo printing related article for a while now. Thanks! Do you offer a subscription service? because I can’t seem to locate the information anywhere.

    • Jamie Jeffries

I just stumbled across your show and I’m impressed. As for pictures, I’ve always used myself. Photos are super cheap. The free sites many times are very limited. I’d rather pay $1 for quickly getting what I want than free for an image I only kinda like that takes me 10 minutes to find. But good resource. I’m going to go back and watch some past shows now. And I subscribed to your podcast on itunes so I can watch the past shows on my phone on my flight tomorrow 🙂

    • Hollister,

There’s an adage in the law profession that says if you argue 10 points the jury will remember none. If you argue one point really well, you’re more likely to convince them. When Curtis mentioned your opt in forum he’s right.

I also looked at your site and your “about” tab is primarily about you, not your company or its mission. I would focus your discussion on that page to the reasons why people would want to choose you and why you are passionate about your company. (Better conditioned athletes, healthier bodies, fewer injuries, and better trained to seize opportunities) something along those lines. You should also be marketing to “traveling team” type leagues or people who are in those leagues. You’re looking for parents who are running their kids all over the country to give them a better edge. Those are the ones who will opt in for your services.

      Good luck.

    • Hey, Great post about Twitter. I think Twitter is going to be one of the better networks because of the fact that it is supported by so many industries. I also think when Twitter reveals some of it’s new features, returning traffic will increase to show the real growth of the network. Keep up the great work!

    • Eric Baker

I used Traffic Geyser for a couple months because I figured the big price tag would be worth it. But when I started monitoring which videos were getting ranked highest in Google, it was always the Tube Mogul ones. TG has lots of other cool features, but if you’re only going to be using it for video submissions, I say TubeMogul is the better bang for the buck.

Good show. Looking forward to the web critiques.

    • Jake Deis

Is there a way to find out if my tube mogul campaign is working? I guess I don’t want to spend the time to upload a bunch of videos if it doesn’t help my ranking. I want to work on things that get me the best return on my time and money. Is there a way to monitor how well it works?

      • The best way I know is to do a google search for the keywords you used in your video title, description, and tags. Videos are typically easy to spot because google actually displays a little thumbnail image next to the listing. Which is good also because the eyes of the person will automatically be drawn to the image.

I just monitor the results manually. There may be a fancy tool out there, but really what good is a tool if you can’t even find it yourself? If you can’t find it, you know your prospects can’t. But I’ve Always had good luck with Tube Mogul, even with my internationally competitive keywords. You shouldn’t have any problem getting ranked locally for non-competitive keywords.

    • Curtis,

Great show this week. A clean, professional and uniform appearance is absolutely critical for any fitness business.

I work with clubs all of the time to improve their professionalism, a proper uniform is a giant leap in the right direction.

“if you want to be the man, dress like the man”

      • I didn’t even mention cleanliness. Which is actually a bigger problem than most people think. I’ve been around trainers and gym owners who wear their favorite sweatshirt that has stains on it, they smell like they just had a workout (probably because they have) or a front desk staff who looks like they rolled right out of bed. You’re right, cleanliness is probably just as important as simply wearing the same shirt as your coworkers.

    • Ellen Sue

What if I have a website being created? Can you do a critique from snapshots of the site that he is sending me? Or is that a pain? I would love your feedback before I make a crucial mistake during development. I sent a message through the ask curtis link also. Thanks for your help and thanks for a great resource!

      Ellen Sue
